Description

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy". Proverbs 31:8-9.

The stories of people in this book are just ordinary people who have made a major contribution to the improving the lives of others, or who were courageous enough to speak out about injustices in the world in which they lived . They were not perfect, but we can learn from these Christians how we can respond to injustices whenever we see it.

This book, will challenge you to think about how your Christian faith practically relates to the world around you. The biographies in this book may be uncomfortable to read, as we realise that without the hard work and sacrifices of people like Elizabeth Fry and Martin Luther King, some of the freedoms we take for granted today, may never have existed. This book contains topics that are designed to provoke discussion on moral and social issues and in most cases the answers to social challenges that Christians face are not easy.

There are still many injustices around us today. When society loses the moral compass that is the word of God, then there is a need people of courage and conviction with radical perspectives to change the way society operates. Through this book, young people will see the challenges faced by each each person who took a stand against the issues of their time, and prayerfully seek a Biblical response to those issues, many of which, we still face today.

Each of these short biographies also includes, several brief sections, At A Glance, Fact Files (relating to the primary social issue in the biography), Faith in Action, Talk About it, Make Your Voice Heard.
