From the earliest days of silent film, police dramas have been firm favourites with TV audiences, and the theme of ‘cops and robbers’ remains hugely popular, A crime is committed, The consequences are played out, with innocent parties sometimes being falsely accused and perhaps even punished for an offence they didn’t commit. The adventure then takes us through the process of exoneration and, finally, forgiveness, as good wins through.
The Cops & Robbers Holiday Club is based on the Old Testament story of Joseph and uses all the Key ingredients of John Hardwick's tried and tested holiday club material to explore how Joseph was able to turn bad circumstances to good because of his trust in God.
Organised into five two-hour holiday club sessions, the theme is explored through an excitingmix of songs, up-front talks, theme illustrations and team challenges, daily dramas with the ever-popular Watt family, crafts, games, puppet sketches, dramatised Bible stories, quizzes and fun sheets, all provided off-the-peg and ready to roll. There are also tips for setting up your holiday club, suggested programme outlines, music notation for all the songs, and templates for posters, badges, invitations and registration sheets.
The five sessions cover Joseph's story as follows:
- Day 1: The plot
- Day 2: The crime
- Day 3: Falsely accused
- Day 4: Go to jail
- Day 5: Forgiveness isn't easy
We had a terrific time on the Cops & Robbers journey, as it allowed us to bring the story of Joseph to life. We felt that the continuity of focusing on one Bible character helped develop the children’s Knowledge and understanding. We hope that it will change the lives of the children and adults involved forever.
