This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet you to speak with you. - Exodus 29:42
The offering spoken of in this passage was to rise up to God continually from the brazen altar, the place where the people drew near to meet the Lord in worship. Morning by morning and evening by evening a new burnt offering was placed on the altar so there would be no interruption in Israel's adoration of the One who had redeemed them.
Today there is no longer any material altar, nor need for any repetition of the sacrifice of the cross toward which all the Old Testament offerings pointed. But the Lord's people are exhorted to offer the sacrifice of praise continually. This book of daily meditations has been prepared with that goal in view.
