Description

There was a time, writes Tozer, when humankind saw the world as a battleground.

‘Man ... had to choose sides—he could not be neutral. For him it must be life or death, heaven or hell, and if he chose to come out on God's side, he could expect open war with God's enemies. The fight would be real and deadly ... The Christian soldier ... never forgot what kind of world he lived in—it was a battleground, and many were wounded and slain.’

However, today the tendency is to ‘think of the world not as a battleground, but as a Playground. We are not here to fight; we are here to frolic. ... We are not getting ready to live, but we are already living’. Unsurprisingly, this changed attitude has had a profound effect on Bible-believing Christians...

In the insightful The World: Playground or Battleground? Tozer writes of the Christian's struggle. Here we find deep teaching full of timeless truths, coupled with Tozer’s great ability to encourage the reader to fall more in love with God, fanning to flame the desire to be in and stay in His presence.

This classic book by A. W. Tozer is one of ten in a new series of his best loved works, chosen for the impact they made when first published and their continued relevance to contemporary Christians.

AIDEN WILSON TOZER

(1897-1963) was a pastor, preacher, author and editor. Often called a twentieth-century prophet, even within his own lifetime, Tozer was converted at seventeen after an encounter with a street preacher. Self-taught, with no formal Bible training, Tozer went on to have a ministry that would span more than forty years, and left a legacy of inspirational, Christ-centred books that have had a profound influenceon Christians worldwide.

'A. W. Tozer’s books reflect a unique blendof genuine piety and downright common sense. He challenged every sort of spiritual pretension while evidencing a devotion to Christ that was every bit as sincere as compelling.’ Charles W. Colson
